You can take group classes (often sponsored by local magic clubs) or private lessons offered by professionals. A number of professional magicians, some of them quite famous, will agree to give private lessons; don’t hesitate to contact them or bring up the subject if you get a chance to meet. It’s important to remember, though, that not all professionals will be willing to give lessons. Anyway, group classes are much less expensive than private lessons, and will enable you to share your passion with other magic enthusiasts.
It makes more sense to take private lessons with a specialist, when you are concentrating on a specific area (such as cards) or a particularly difficult technique. When you’re just stating out, though, it’s best to explore all the fundamentals instead of focusing exclusively on cards or the cups and balls, for example.
This search engine will help you find a magic class in your area. Unfortunately, there are still relatively few schools or associations that specialize in teaching magic. If you can’t find anything in your area, try contacting the nearest magic club.
In the meantime, you can get to know other magicians near you through the “Meet Other Magicians” service.
